The Company

Epic Events Ltd is a Taupo based events company dedicated to delivering high quality sporting events in top locations.

Kiwis love participating in outdoor events and Epic Events is the company that provides that opportunity.

Epic runs a wide range of events including motorcycling, mountain biking, running, walking and kayaking.

Epic events are more than just a business. Events are our passion and way of life... We don’t aim to run the biggest events, but we want all events to be epic.

 A Brief History

Started in 2000 Epic Events initial focus was motorcycle trail rides and quickly developed into the market leader in this industry with the highest participation levels at all rides including an all time high of 1900 riders at Desert Storm in 2005.

In 2008 Epic Events spread its wings and began the construction of ‘human powered events’ and competitive motorcycle events. The first of these new events was the Whirinaki Quest Mountain Bike event held near Murupara in 2008. 

In 2009 Epic Events added to it’s repertoire with two new events, the Taupo 4 Hour motorcycle race and an Off Road Half Marathon.

The Taupo 4 Hour was a huge success and has become the most popular off road teams/individual motorcycle endurance race in NZ.

The Off Road Half Marathon was introduced next and attracted 429 runners and walkers keen to make it around Mt Tauhara.  The event was part of a series of 3 half marathons in Taupo called the 63.3.

In 2010, we are creating three new events, starting with the Trans Taupo Open Water Paddle, then Crank Taupo Mountain Bike on and around Mount Tauhara in Taupo which includes a Downhill and Cross-country race and Super Trail a motorcycle trail ride with over 200km of forest terrain.

The event portfolio continues to expand as we come up with fresh event ideas in epic locations.

The Director

Epic Events Ltd is owned and directed by Nick Reader. Nick competed at a high level in off road motorcyling and has always enjoyed a wide range of outdoor sports and activities. 

Nick completed a Bachelor of Leisure Studies at Waikato University in 1995 which set him up well to begin providing recreational events.  Nick is the driving force behind the company and strives to live up to the name of organising truly Epic Events in the New Zealand outdoors.
